Top Summer Cocktails
Nothing says summer more than a refreshing cocktail, especially in the roaring South East Queensland heat. Sipping on something icy and delicious is the ultimate way to enjoy the warmer weather rather than suffer from it. Due to the weather heating up, we have decided to give you a go-to guide of all our favourite cocktails so that you won’t be caught without a drink in your hand this summer. All you need is a blender, a couple of glasses, and plenty of ice.
First up we have the drink that will give you beach vibes no matter where you are, the mojito. This Cuban classic is perfect for any beach trip to the Sunshine or Gold Coast, and it is super simple to make. Just muddle up some sugar, mint, and lime juice, add ice, a shot of white rum, and top it off with soda water. Garnish with a sprig of mint and there you have it: a holiday in a glass.
Next up we have something for the wine lovers who want to add a little punch to their next glass of red. Sangria is a traditional Spanish cocktail that is perfect for those hot summer days. The simplest way to make it is to add red wine, chopped up fruit of your choosing, orange juice, sugar, and ice to jug. Mix it all up and you have a refreshingly tasty cocktail that is easy to make and even easier to drink.
If you want to up your cocktail game without too much hassle, a classic margarita is the way to go. Pour tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice over ice into a shaker and go to town. If you want it to have a slushie consistency, just throw it in a blender with a bit more ice. Make it look impressive by serving it in a salt rimmed glass and your guests will be drooling.
SUMMER TIP: Replace the tequila with rum, the Cointreau with simple syrup, and the salt rim with a lime wedge garnish and you have a simple daiquiri.
Because who doesn’t love piña coladas and getting caught in the rain? Serve this one to achieve the complete summer island atmosphere. All it takes is pineapple juice, white rum, coconut cream, and ice. Blend it to perfection and garnish with a pineapple slice. If you want to go all out, throw in a tiny umbrella for next level tropical vibes.
Last but certainly not least, if you are in a pinch and need something refreshing fast, your best bet is to throw together a good old punch bowl. Cut up some fresh fruit and add it to a bowl with ice, fruit juice, ginger ale, and any type of alcohol you have in the back of the cupboard. Go wild and experiment with different flavours. You can’t go wrong with punch, making this the perfect cocktail to throw together on a hot day.
